Trav’s Outfitter began with a dream and a lot of hard work. At just 15 years old, founder Travas Uthe started in the footwear business on Kemp Avenue in uptown Watertown, South Dakota. He learned the value of great customer service and developed a passion for helping people find the right fit. Those lessons shaped his vision to one day build a store of his own.

In December 2003, with more than 15 years of experience and a commitment to honesty and hard work, Travas launched Trav’s Outfitter out of his garage. By May 2004, he opened the first storefront on North Highway 20 in Watertown—sharing space with a pizza shop. It wasn’t glamorous, but it was a start, and every customer mattered.

That same spirit drives Trav’s Outfitter today. Over the years, we’ve grown into the Upper Midwest’s premier destination for work and western footwear and apparel. In 2018, we expanded into our current 28,000-square-foot flagship store in Watertown on West Highway 212. And in 2025, we opened our second location—a 33,000-square-foot store in Rapid City, South Dakota—bringing the Trav’s Outfitter experience to both the eastern and western sides of the state.

With more than 30,000 pairs in stock, you’ll find everything from rugged work boots and premium western styles to athletic shoes, hunting gear, and apparel for everyday wear. We proudly carry trusted brands like KEEN, Timberland Pro, Ariat, Carhartt, HOKA, On Running, Brooks, and many more.
